Selections of Writings
on the Artist

The paintings of Ahmed Sakr are characterized by depicting unusual themes and holding
symbols and talismans that evoke mystery and have many forms and compositions as if
they are ciphers delivered to the viewer.
The symbols he employs may seem a revival to the ancient Pharaonic depictions. They
may not easily reveal their profound meanings to the viewer and keep their secrets, which
are the secrets of the artist's own style. Sakr moves between two quite different civiliza-
tions. Despite his distinct style in artistic expression, his themes of visions, fears, and
desires are so familiar. The artworks of the Egyptian artist cannot be understood unless
putting in consideration his religious background and Islamic culture. As a human, his
existence and entity are influenced by the process of divine creation and creativity, so his
paintings reflect great respect for creation and creativity.
