Statue of Ibrahim Pasha, by Charles Cordier, standing at the Opera Square in Cairo

The same happened with the famous French sculptor Henri Alfred Jacquemart
(1896-1824), who simultaneously received an official invitation from Khedive Isma’il
with the coming of Cordier to Egypt.(6) He was commissioned to sculpt the statue
of Muhammad Ali at El-Mansheya Square, Alexandria until now. It is the statue
which we see one of its original small-
scale models at the current exhibition;
the robust governor was figured riding
his horse and there is also a small-scale
statue of it which is currently displayed
at the Museum of Fine Arts in Alexandria.

The great final model of the statue
of Muhammad Ali done by Jacquemart
received warm hospitality and interest in
the French community after he finished
its sculpting. It was publicly displayed
for a month at Champs-Élysées Square
in 1872 with the statue of Ibrahim Pasha
mentioned above made by Cordier, as soon
as they emerged from the Thiebaut Frèresin
Foundry in France where they were molded
before being shipped to Egypt.
