understand. And although interpretation,
on the one hand, violates the loyalty to
abstraction, on the other hand, it helps
us to receive the passion for the shape, to
listen to its pure language, and to allow
the subjective side to receive the work.
Moreover, abstraction opens more spaces
for interpretation, as it does not refer the
recipient to a ready-made shape that he
already knows. The journey of his receipt
ends once he recognizes it; the recipient
browses his memory in search of visual
substances depicting elements in reality
similar to what he sees. Furthermore,
abstraction leads the recipient to search
for a way to understand the artwork which
eliminates the apparent ambiguity of the
shape. Naturally, we look for our own
shapes or drop them into abstract color
bodies and shadows. However, abstract
art requires a vision that wouldn’t violate
the special nature and independence of
the shape language, and the more the
artwork is abstract the more it becomes
intriguing and shall require the recipient
to receive it in an aware manner and try
to understand the meaning of shapes to
decipher its ambiguity and receive the
messages behind the artwork. Only then,
he cannot help but happily succumb
to the magic of color and shape, and
this is in my opinion one of the most
beautiful forms of abstract art receiving
and the most enjoyable one, especially
in exposure to an experience like that
presented by Farouk Hosny’s art.
