ro Binnale 13th 2019 For the selection of the proposed contributions for me as a cura-
tor what we call the „duktus“ was predominant and came first of
all. This means the peculiarity, the uniqueness, the individuality
which are expressed in the works of the artists.
For many years I have known and observed the artists selected
for the Biennale.

Victorine Müller: Once you have seen one of her plastic foil
installations, you’ll always recognize the artist. From numer-
ous mystical and fairytale installations I have selected the „Pe-
gasus“. The dreamlike crossing of borders, the immersion in oth-
er worlds of thoughts, lightness and permeability are essential
characteristics of Victorine Müller’s work of art.

Ursula Palla: Her videos and installations are ambiguous and
enigmatic. This holds true especially for the Video „Black Flow-
er“. The colored flowers shattering at the window are to be read
as a metaphor for our society in which demarcation and exclu-
sion are discussed.
The same ambiguity and mystery is also radiating through her
video „Bird“. In ancient Egypt, the owl’s reputation was consid-
ered as an omen of misfortune and death. At the same time, the
owl was worshipped for its special contacts and access to the
realm.

Daniel Frank: Whether with drawings or with paintings – the
artist is taking notes of his thoughts and impressions every day.
This is his passion.
That’s how I got to know Daniel Frank many years ago in Egypt,
where he has been working for months from morning to late on
canvases and on a huge paper roll, on which he captured his
beloved Cairo with all its related impressions.
