Pierre-Auguste Renoir «French», 1841 / 1919, A Girl Holding a
Cat, Pastel on paper, 58.5x 46 cm.

The informed viewer never misses the flowing vitality and delicateness of the
paintings of the wonderful painter Auguste Renoir (1919-1840), who possessed a
delicate sensitivity, influenced by the craft he learned during his youth, which is
painting on “porcelain”. When put on the opaque grayish-white “porcelain”, colors
give that delicate effect reached brilliantly and elaborately by the artist, who was
interested in portraying women. The women figures in his paintings always have a
gentle appearance, look like flowers, as well as evoke a sense of joy, romance, and
vividness. In his painting, “Face of a Girl”, which dates back to the 1890s and is
displayed in this exhibition, the color and joy of life are realized. Free from signs of
anxiety, the painting look as if it was woven from the threads of the spectral sunlight
rays. He used the gleaming colors and smooth lines, inspired by the ideal style of
Dutch artist Rubens with his perfection. In his paintings, Renoir focused on humans,
presenting them in cheerful colors that reflect their deep satisfaction with life. He
also painted a world of dim sunlight and long afternoons, intentionally eliminating
signs of sadness or exhaustion.
