ro Binnale 13th 2019 Since its inception, the International Cairo Biennale has been one of the significant contri-
butions serving as a tool for communication and openness among arts and civilizations of
the world. After a pause of more than eight years, the Biennale comes back with the thir-
teenth edition entitled “Eyes East Bound”, a title extending an implicit invitation to all coun-
tries of the world to visit Egypt, enjoy its art and culture, and see its history and civilization.
The International Cairo Biennale has become a unique experience in its field and has suc-
ceeded in establishing itself globally over the past twelve editions as a significant event
bringing together the art creations of different continents.
The upcoming edition of the Biennale brings together art creators from all over the world,
who set their eyes toward the East and take inspiration from its charm, traditions, and his-
tory for artworks enriching the records of human creativity, on the land of the most ancient
civilizations.
Thanks and appreciation are due to all those who contributed to the founding of such im-
portant international cultural and art event, which has become our source of pride among
countries of the world since 1984 and until now.
Salute to the spirit of creators of this international event: artist Ahmed Fouad Selim, one of
the founders of theBiennale, and Dr. Abdel Hamid Radwan and Dr. Ahmed Heikal, former
ministers of culture.
I extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to artist Farouk Hosni, the former minister
of culture, who has been keen to support and develop the International Cairo Biennale for
many years until it has become an established and special Egyptian art event.
Thanks also go to every artist who has played a part in reviving this international event. Wel-
come to all participating artists and distinguished guests of Egypt on its good land, which
has been and will remain the cradle of civilizations and the crossroads of cultures.

Prof. Inas Abdel Dayem

Minister of Culture
