فالتعبير الجديد عن الشتات يتم من خلال دمج مجالات السلطة في السياق التشيل ّي،يتطرق إلى ما هو عكس ذلك
والمجموعات الاقتصادية المختلفة (تجارة التجزئة والبنوك والعقارات) والميدان السياسي (الذي يشتمل على

Rearticulated Diaspora: Power, Economy and Politics Cairo Binnale 13th 2019

The project “Rearticulated Diaspora: Power, Economy and Politics” explores through car-
tography (territories) and the diagram (power relations) the scope and implications in con-
temporary Chile, of the evolution of the Arab diaspora, made up of Palestinians, Lebanese
and Syrians, arrived in Chile between 1885 and 1940, against the threat of the Ottoman
Empire. In this context, the Arab diaspora emerges from one of the most agitated and unsta-
ble regions of the planet, facing dissolution processes.
If the concept of diaspora implies a dispersion, this work explores the opposite: the reartic-
ulation through the consolidation of spheres of power in the Chilean context, of different
economic groups (retail, banks and Real Estate) as well as with the political sphere (which
covers the entire spectrum of political tendencies) which share a common origin: the
Middle East.
This rearticulation is visualized globally and symbolically, from an iconographic image: the
shirt of Palestino Sports Club. Football team that due to the current geopolitical situation
between Palestine and Israel, adopts the condition of a practice of resistance.
Finally, the work uses as representation techniques, fabrics, threads and pins, as a way to
build a dialogue with the most representative production areas of the Arab community in
Chile such as spinning mills and textile industries.
