Selim… between the Beginning of the Journey and Passing Away
He was not only a plastic artist, critic or researcher who appeared on the Egyptian
art scene, but he was one of the main factors influencing the Egyptian art movement,
whether through his writings and important critical articles or through his management
of art for forty years until his name was associated with a number of art events such
as Youth Salon, Small Pieces Salon or Cairo International Biennale.
Selim did not stop at these roles; he left us a huge artistic legacy in which we
explore the features of his personality that is fond of music and free from all of
classical, traditional and diverse customs.
Selim's journey was rich and fruitful. He began it with loving all kinds of arts. He
liked poetry, music and theater until the first experimental theaters, “Hundred Chair
Theater”, was established in the Czechoslovak Cultural Center.
He was also well cultured and knowledgeable. He devoted that to serve his art
and his diverse artistic works that seek to renovation, experimentation and infinity;
he commented himself on one of the recent exhibitions saying:
"This is not my final action... nor the beginning ... I show it to set aside and start
again"
