On the East and its language, a non-alphabetical language with no vocabulary, an untrans-
latable language that I create.
More explicitly, it is the product of mixed social, participatory and dependent heritage. It
is clearly manifested in socio-economic practices that aim for support, and in which the
society shares the financial burdens resulting from costly occasions in a way that achieves
solidarity and sustainability.
Having similar purposes and different names in the countries of the East, these practices are
called “Al-Gamiyah” and “Al-Noqta” in Egypt, “Al-Remow” in Tunisia, “Al-Zroura” in Mo-
rocco, “Al-Wajib” in Iraq, and “Al-Aniyah” in Syria.
This project is an attempt to explore the language of the East through inviting a group of
writers and artists interested in language to suggest names for a hybrid tool, a can opener
connected to a battery drill, a tool following the same logic of support behind its creation in
order to recover both its usefulness and its sustainability.
